Jay Electronica

Jay Electronica born and raised in Magnolia Projects, New Orleans is a rapper and producer known for his use of percussionless film soundtracks as a background for his abstract lyrical style, and his associations with Erykah Badu, Just Blaze and Nas. He produced the first track, "Queens Get the Money", on the 2008 Nas album Untitled. The unconventional nature of much of his music, and the lack of conventional release methods for that music, have since 2007 made him the object of much attention.

“Just chillin’” with Dame Dash may have just spawned a rap supergroup project. On Wednesday, at Dash’s new facility (art gallery, TV studio, music studio and more), DD172, critically acclaimed underground lyricist Curren$y told MTV News that he, Jay Electronica and Mos Def have combined forces to start recording an entire album together.
“That’s ridiculous!” Curren$y said. “Jay Electronica is from my city, he’s from New Orleans. I never met homie until I stepped foot in this building. He came here to meet Mos. And Mos, I had only known him for 24 hours prior to that. But genuine people could recognize [each other], it was like, ‘Let’s go.’ ”
Curren$y said Mos came up with the name of “Center Edge Territory” for the trio. When asked exactly what the moniker means, Curren$y would only comment emphatically, “Everything! That’s everything!
“We all know the game is in turmoil. We know the machine messed it up,” he added, explaining why they will be putting their music out independently instead of with a major label. “We know we don’t even need to play that game, especially with access to all of this sh–. We are our own machine.”
So far, Center Edge Territory have recorded six records together, but they have no concrete plans as to when the full-length album will drop.
“The funny thing, it came from just chilling,” Dash said. “If you’re gonna be here [at DD172], there’s no hanging out.
“There’s no reason to be here unless you have the ability to work or you’re working,” Dash explained of the space Mos nicknamed of the “24-Hour Karate School.” “This is like an office where you work in a different way.”
Dash is putting out BlakRoc by the Black Keys (featuring collaborations with Mos Def, Jim Jones, Q-Tip, Ludacris, RZA and others) on November 27. Meanwhile, Curren$y just completed an album with a group he formed called the Muscle Car Chronicles, which includes Thomas Pridgen from the Mars Volta and newcomer Sean O’Connell . |

I actually saw dude once in Atlanta, and this is the perfect title for his album.
NaS was doing a show, along with Jay Electronica and Talib Kweli. While we were waiting in line to get into the club, This rickety ass black van pulls up behind us, and Jay hops out In some red Alifes.
When he got out, it was like 200 people standing outside. He jumped out of the van and tried to hurry to the entrance, because he thought that he was going to be bumrushed by the people in line. He then walks past everyone to try to get inside the club, and some big ass dude who didn't know he who he was grabs him and says "Get your black ass to the back n*gga", Jay was crushed once he realized that even the bouncer didn't know who he was.
Kweli opened, and basically shut the club down. So this n*gga walks up on the stage, We had no idea who he was, people thought that he was part of the setup crew or something. People started going to the bathroom and getting refills and shit.
Nas didn't even let him perform, because he didn't get a reaction out of the crowd when he hit the stage. Nas proceeded to come on and rock the show though.
Well worth $40 bucks. _________________ FREE DOWNLOAD: 2009 Grammy Family LP

rofl i feel bad for him now _________________ I don't think "Homies over Hos" is a sentiment that A Pimp Named Slickback can co-sign, Riley. I mean, don't get me wrong, A Pimp Named Slickback will put a lot of things over a ho: Money over a ho? Always. Brand new gators over a ho? Absolutely. A turkey sandwich wit' just tomato? Guaranteed. But homies? Oh no. A Pimp Named Slickback DON'T DO SHIT for the homies. Let me reiterate: DON'T DO SHIT for the homies! Unless the homie wanna walk that stroll and get that money, the homie ain't getting a goddamn thing and the same goes for brothas, peeps, dudes, fellas, dunnies, comrades, whatever the fuck n*ggas is callin' each other nowadays. Sounds like some gay shit to me.

Can you re-up the mixtape on a different hosting site? I've listened to it before, but never really got into Jay Electronica. _________________
