Similar to the "Lens" thread, this is geared to help/assist beginners, amateurs, and some experienced photogs when deciding upon which camera body to buy, upgrade, and/or trade for. More over, it'll be used as a reference guide for camera specs, prices (new & used), sample shots, and/or personal experience. People can ask specific questions regarding camera bodies on this thread. To keep things consistant, if you want to contribute a review on what camera body you are currently using, please follow the same format as it's done on the "Lens" thread (shown below):
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Camera Review: (place camera body being reviewed here)
New: $$$ (how much it's running brand new and where the source price came from)
Used Market: $$$ (rough estimate on how much it will costs used - POTN, FM, eBay)
Pros: (the good qualities of the body - build, crop factor, cost, LCD size, ISO levels, FPS, actuations, overall feel, etc.)
Cons: (the bad qualities of the body - build, crop factor, cost, LCD size, ISO levels, FPS, actuations, overall feel, etc.)
Conclusion: (personal usage and results of real world applications)
Personal Rating from 1 to 5: (1 being bad and 5 being great)
Sample Images: Post images here
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
To start off this thread, here are a couple of FAQ's that have been asked several times over and the comments/responses given from respective posters:
GOOD BIGINNER dSLR BODIES:
Nikon: D40/x, D60 , D3000 , D5000 (if you need video)
Canon: Rebel XT, Rebel XTi , Rebel XSi , Rebel XS , Rebel T1i (if you need video)
CAMERA CROP FACTOR / SENSOR SIZE:
For Canon, there are three different crop factors/sensor size formats; full frame (1.0x), APS-H (1.3x), and APS-C (1.6x).
For Nikon, there are two; full frame (FX format) and 1.5x (DX format).
Canon:
Full Frame (1.0x) - 1Ds Mark 3, 1Ds Mark 2, 1Ds Mark 1, 5D, and 5D Mark 2
APS-H (1.3x) - 1D Mark 3, 1D Mark 2, 1D Mark 2N, 1D Mark 1
APS-C (1.6x) - All xxD Series (10D, 20D, 30D, 40D, 50D, 7D) and Rebel Series (XT, XTi, XS, XSi, Ti1)
Nikon:
Full Frame (1.0x) - D3, D3x, D3s, D700
APS-C (1.5x) - All Dxx, D300/s, D200, D100, D1/H/X, D2H/s, D2X/s
CALCULATING CROP FACTOR / SENSOR SIZE WITH LENS' FOCAL LENGTH:
You basically multiply the focal length (mm) times the crop factor/sensor size your camera has... For example... 18mm on a full frame body will be 18mm (1.0 x 18mm)... However, on a APS-C cropped body the 18mm is equivalent to 28.8mm (1.6 x 18mm)... Simple math, but a big difference in focal length...
VISUALIZATION OF CROP FACTORS BASED ON SENSOR SIZE:
WHERE DO I PURCHASE FROM (New/Used):
BHVideo.com (new & used)
Amazon.com
Samys.com (new & used)
Canogacamera.com (new & used)
Ritzcamera.com (new & used)
eBay (new & used - just make sure you do your research on seller/company)
Craigslist (new & used - just make sure you do your research on seller/company)
POTN - Photography-on-the.net (new & used)
FM - Fredmiranda.com (new & used)
keh.com (new & used)
This thread will continue to be updated when information about new camera bodies are introduced to the masses. I will do my best to make sure everything up-to-date and in running order. If you would like to submit a review of your experience with the body you currently have, please feel free to use the format above and give us your honest critique. Also, if you would like for me to update any of the information posted above, please PM me and I'll update it ASAP. With that, I truly hope this thread will benefit many of those who might be on the fence on which camera to buy, upgrade, and/or trade for to suit their photography needs. Information and knowledge is key when you invest your hard earned money to a camera body. Thanks in advance to all who contribute to this ongoing thread. _________________ "Beginners worry about cost... Amateurs worry about equipment... Professionals worry about light..."

I know this has probably been asked a million times in previous threads but what is the main difference you guys noticed when shooting with a nikon and shooting with a Canon? I'm askin' b/c I'm a noob interested into getting into photography I'm actually looking into getting a D3000 or a D40 but I keep on hearing a lot of good things about the Rebel XSI. Much appreciation on any help/info. _________________ BUSINESS as USUAL

There isn't really that much difference, some just may have features some others don't. What I would do is try both brands out in person and see which one I'm more comfortable with, and like more and buy that one. Try your local Best Buy.
Hope that helps. _________________ Flickr

You can't go wrong with either brand. There's not really any MAIN difference until you start buying the more expensive gear (and in that department, Nikon wins, but is also a lot more expensive; while Canon still proves to be no slouch whatsoever despite their slightly out-dated [as opposed to Nikon's] professional gear).
The new generation of Nikon cameras tend to have better high iso processing, while Canon cameras tend to have more megapixels. Not ENTIRELY true, though. _________________ in.Focus 2.0 :: Powered by Nikon.

Thnks for all the info
When I go to Best Buy to try the cams out, is there something I should definitely look out for in terms of "being comftorable with the camera?" _________________ BUSINESS as USUAL

You should look for how it feels in your hands. If it's the right size for you, and the buttons are in places that you like and easy to access for yourself. Ergonomics are really important in a camera.
Hope that helps. _________________ Flickr
