The meaning of the word went from being offensive to being something that is used as a common greeting among teenagers , MEANING they use it alot without thinking of the word and it's actual meaning. I hear this word daily . My statement is true
Read it right. Just because the word is used alot doesn't mean it won't be counted as anything offensive

I think it's good that some people, especially teachers have the courage to question the controversy of the word.
It really isn't as big of a deal as it's made out to be. After all, it's not the word, it's how it's used.
Also, sorta related...when black people say that only black people should be able to use the word "n*gga" I think it's ridiculous, it it's so offensive that you think it should be off limits to some people, then just don't say it yourself, it shouldn't be a selective thing.
It's almost juvenile because when you think about it, the person might as well be saying, "You don't get to use it because your ancestors who you didn't even know weren't subjected to the amount of pain as mine."

Im trying to make a point for those that blame their environment for what they say or do. I come from damn near the worst of the worst yet I think for myself and choose to go the other route. And when I say people "force" themselves to say it. Im just saying that people unjustly want to use it. Push themselves to use it and probably dont know how NOT to use it because they dont educate themselves.
Or how about this, Some people just dont give a fuck. 
And for myself. I grew up in a community where it was heard all of the time. Friends, family neighbors etc. I think Im making great progress going from N*gga being every other word out of my mouth to once or twice a year. That one time that it may slip out of my mouth is because its a SLIP UP. An accidental use of the word when my emotions may get heated. Sometimes I have to calm down and catch myself. As a matter of fact, the last time I used the word unknowingly was during a situation back when I was stationed in Korea when an old Korean man called me and some freinds out of our names(long story short) we were denied service and mad ass fuck.
Anyway, this should clarify when and IF I ever say it compared to someone else who says it constantly for the hell of it.

well, in my opinion it's not the word thats the problem but the mindset of the person saying it. A lot of words have had there definition changed over the years, why can't we do the same with this word? I understand the word was spawned out of negativity and it's a shame, but it would be easier just to change the meaning then try and get rid of the word all together. It's not like it's the 1950's, when shit was still segregated. We've all been exposed to many different cultures and it's gonna continue to be that way for newer generations. That's like people who get chinese character tattoos and they're not chinese. Everyone picks and grabs from different cultures. I'm half filipino/ white, i grew up in L.A., 90% of my friends are black and everyone says it. How do u expect someone not to say a word, when everyone around them uses it? That doesn't mean that i can't think for myself, but when it's everyday of ur life it's gonna rub off. I've asked them how they felt about me using the word, and most of them are cool except for a few, but the ones who aren't know that when i do say it, it's not to degrade them. I respect u for trying not to use the word any more, i made that pact with myself awhile ago but i still slip up sometimes.

Oh, I "read it right," and I think it's not as big of a deal as it's made out to be.
There are plenty of other words in the human language that used to be offensive slurs of some sort but are now used as something non offensive. Why does this word have to be singled out? Tell me that. |

The word itself whether ending in "a" or "er" has no effect on young people 18-25 year old demographic because its used so commonly that its a household word like peanut butter. Its the older generation 30 and up that have issues with it because when we were growing up its meaning was as diverse. Today everyone is a N***a. Its not limited to one race asians, latins, caucasians, hell even Germans can call themselves the word and be ok with it. It issue is this, even though everyone says it when they shouldnt they want acceptance to use the word and they arent gonna get that. To make the statement that black people should not be upset because we use the word all the time is crazy. You can tell an ENTIRE race how to feel about something because we do it. Yes its a double standard. And even after you black friends allow you to use the word doesnt mean that you can say it to evey black person that you run into. So personally, how do i feel, eh. I could careless either way if i know u and we are cool like that then its whatever but if i dont know you and u just come up to me like whats good my n***a its gonna be problems. OHHHH and by the way it pisses me off more to hear what up my ninja than the "N" word......GO FIGURE
