|

|
| Quote: | (11-09) 12:30 PST Eugene, Ore. (AP) --
A Eugene man fighting a home intruder to defend his mother and young children was bitten by a police dog after officers mistook him for the prowler they had been chasing through the neighborhood. Tim Crossan told The Register-Guard he broke his hand on the intruder's face during the fight, just before police burst in and sent the dog after him.
The 39-year-old father of three told the Eugene newspaper the dog bit through his left calf before clamping down on his thigh and then his left buttock.
The intruder, meanwhile, escaped and Crossan said he is upset that police have not offered him an apology for the bites that landed him in the hospital overnight earlier this week.
Eugene Police Chief Pete Kerns on Friday said the incident was "unfortunate" but praised Crossan for defending his home, calling his actions "heroic."

|
|
|
|
| Quote: | Google Inc. said on Monday it agreed to buy AdMob for $750 million, acquiring mobile advertising expertise that could help the search giant maintain its online dominance as consumers conduct more of their browsing over smart phones and similar devices.
The all-stock deal for the San Mateo company shows that Google is already making good on its recent promise to ramp up purchases, providing renewed optimism among entrepreneurs and investors suffering through the mergers and acquisitions drought in Silicon Valley.
Google of Mountain View said the transaction will allow it to develop better online advertising tools, enabling marketers to better engage consumers, users to receive more relevant ads, and publishers to earn greater revenue.
"Mobile advertising has enormous potential as a marketing medium and while this industry is still in the early stages of development, AdMob has already made exceptional progress in a very short time," said Susan Wojcicki, vice president of product management at Google, in a statement.
The technology promises a virtuous cycle, allowing content producers to generate more revenue over mobile devices, which in turn will lead to better applications, said Omar Hamoui, founder and CEO of AdMob, in a statement.
"As publishers and developers generate more revenue from their mobile products, they will invest more, and their mobile offerings will become richer, more creative and more robust," he said.
In late September, Google Chief Executive Eric Schmidt declared that the worst of the recession over and said the company would accelerate its acquisitions to about a company a month, following a relatively slow M&A period. At the end of the third quarter, Google boasted a cash war chest of $22 billion to finance this strategy.
The deal is subject to customary closing conditions. |

|
|
| Quote: | RICHMOND, Va. -- The U.S. Supreme Court has refused to block Tuesday's scheduled execution of sniper mastermind John Allen Muhammad.
The Court did not comment Monday on why it refused to consider his appeal.
Muhammad is scheduled to die by injection at a Virginia prison for the slaying of Dean Harold Meyers at a gas station during a three-week spree in 2002 across Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C.
Muhammad and his teenage accomplice, Lee Boyd Malvo, were also suspected of fatal shootings in other states, including Louisiana, Alabama and Arizona. Malvo is serving a life sentence.
Muhammad still has a clemency petition before Virginia Gov. Timothy M. Kaine.
Muhammad's attorney, Jonathan Sheldon, says "Virginia will execute a severely mentally ill man who also suffered from Gulf War Syndrome the day before Veterans Day." |

|
|
|
|
| Quote: | LOS ANGELES -- Jennifer Lopez is suing her first husband to keep him from making their sex life public.
The lawsuit in Los Angeles County Superior Court accuses Ojani Noa of intending to sell a movie containing hours of home video, including some of the actress in sexual situations taken on their honeymoon.
Lopez and Noa were married for 11 months in 1997. She claims he's violating a prior confidentiality agreement.
Lopez wants at least $10 million and a court order preventing Noa and filmmaker Ed Meyer from releasing the material.
A Facebook message left for Noa was not immediately returned.
In 2007, Lopez won $545,000 in another lawsuit that blocked Noa from publishing a ghostwritten tell-all book.
The lawsuit was filed Friday.

quote]DELRAY BEACH — A 90-year-old man was carjacked and shot in front of his Pines East apartment about 7:30 p.m. Monday, according to police.
The elderly man and an 82-year-old woman who was with him were carjacked in the 1100 block of Boxwood Drive, and the man was shot, Delray Beach police Lt. David Everhart said. His condition was unknown, and the woman suffered from a sprained ankle when she fell, Everhart said.
Apparently the two had been at a Chinese restaurant, stopped at an ATM afterward and were followed to the apartment complex.
The two male suspects escaped in a newer model red pickup truck, he said. They also took the victim's 2000 Buick LaSabre, Florida tag LO 28 RP.[/quote]
Why shoot him? Crime in general is bad & it's even worse on the elderly. _________________
