This thread is for all Android OS Phones such as the G1 and HTC Magic.
Post your questions here.
Some apps for the android OS.
Well, I’ve had my G1 for a while now (in fact, I’m on my 4th G1) and I thought I should do a little App review. For those of you who don’t know the T-Mobile G1 is currently the only Android based smart phone on the market in the United States. Android is a software platform and operating system for mobile devices, based on the Linux kernel, initially developed by Google.
So without further ado, here’s to my G1! (All the apps listed below are completely FREE)
1. Twidroid
Twidroid is one of my most used applications and by and far the best Twitter client on the Android Market. If you are a twitterciple, then you need look no further for an app to handle your twitter needs. Twidroid comes with every feature you could think of from retweeting, direct messaging, posting pictures, marking a favorite…I could go on, but check it out for yourselves.
2. Snap Photo
Nobody likes the default Camera. Adds more image stabilization to your G1’s camera using the accelerometer to detect movement. Further settings permit you to add location data to images, play a shutter sound, and set as default your default camera app. It also offers advanced settings that allow you to assign a image prefixes, enable continuous shooting, control jpeg quality and whitebalance, add image effects, enable night shots, set anti-banding and picture size, and a set a self-timer.
3. Crutch
Every try downloading something from your G1 browser and get that silly “your phone doesn’t support this content” error message and it won’t let you download it? Well this nifty little app will ail your download woes. It will allow you to download anything from the net straight to your SD card, but in order to use what you downloaded, you’ll either need an appropriate application or plug your G1 to your computer and take the files off the SD card. Pretty awesome!
4. Loopt
Loopt is a great app that lets you add other friends using the application (not just G1 users but WinMo and iPhone users), and tells you where they are in relative position to where you are. It makes it easy to meet up with friends if they don’t know where they are, or if you’re just stalking an ex. Other notable features are the ability to update your status, comment on each others status’, upload pictures, plenty of privacy settings, customizable text message alerts for when a friend is within X miles of you, and on the G1 it has the ability to run in the background (unlike the iPhone version). Loopt has an option of keeping track of you all the time instead of just when you open the application.
5. ShopSavvy
If you own a G1, I’m sure you say this one coming. ShopSavvy is basically an application that utilizes a barcode scanner and a massive product database to check prices against. For christmas, I went into Best Buy and scanned just about everything I wanted to buy, ShopSavvy told me what their online price was, and Best Buy matched all the prices for me. Overall, this neat little application has saved me a over $500, and very rarely doesn’t have product information. Other features include the ability to create wishlists, notify if price drops below X dollars, product scan history, and even the ability to twitter your finds!
Newest Phone the Motorola Droid,

I bought the SNES for the Droid and its great. Need to adjust to not having any buttons on the screen, but other than, its been working pretty smoothly.
My favorite thing so far would have to be the fact that I can connect it to my Mac (I'm sure I'm not the only one that appreciates this), which has been a major perq compared to most of my previous phones. Next to that, I'm loving how personal the phone is for me. It's literally MY phone - meaning I doubt I'll see anyone else with the same apps and set up as the one I have.
Apps I recommend;
iMusic - You can literally get any song you can think of...free. Downloads straight to your library too.
Pandora/iMeem - when you don't feel like picking your song, these are the perfect apps for that.
snes- Already explained it.
App Killer - simple and straight forward. Really useful too.
Sportstap - for the sports junkies (I check my widget every 5 minutes)
Update later with more..
For those of you with the Droid...what do ya'll think so far? |
