So for the fifth Featured Photographer, Jane Bown was showcased. In this Featured Photographer one of the "G.O.A.T's" will be showcased. I'm sure a lot of you have heard of him.
For all other previous Featured Photographer's see here.

Ansel Easton Adams (February 20, 1902 – April 22, 1984)
San Francisco, California, United States
Website: http://www.anseladams.com/
Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ansel_Adams
Bio: http://www.anseladams.com/content/ansel_info/anseladams_biography2.html

Photo of him:

From his Wiki:
"Ansel Easton Adams (February 20, 1902 – April 22, 1984) was an American photographer and environmentalist, best known for his black-and-white photographs of the American West and primarily Yosemite National Park.
For his images, he developed the zone system, a way to determine proper exposure and adjust the contrast of the final print. The resulting clarity and depth characterized his photographs. Although his large-format view cameras were difficult to use because of their size, weight, setup time, and film cost, their high resolution ensured sharpness in his images.
He founded the Group f/64 along with fellow photographers Edward Weston and Imogen Cunningham, which in turn created the Museum of Modern Art's department of photography. Adams's timeless and visually stunning photographs are reproduced on calendars, posters, and in books, making his photographs widely recognizable."

Some of his Photos:

The Tetons and the Snake River (1942)

Evening McDonald Lake Glacier National Park (1942)

Church, Taos Pueblo (1942)

A little about his career:
"In 1927, Adams contracted for his first portfolio, in his new style, which included his famous image Monolith, the vertical western face of Half Dome taken with his Korona view camera utilizing glass plates and a dark red filter (to heighten the tonal contrasts). On that excursion, he had only one plate left and he “visualized” the effect of the blackened sky before risking the last shot. As he stated, “I had been able to realize a desired image: not the way the subject appeared in reality but how it felt to me and how it must appear in the finished print”. As he wrote confidently in April, 1927, “My photographs have now reached a stage when they are worthy of the world’s critical examination. I have suddenly come upon a new style which I believe will place my work equal to anything of its kind."

Quotes from Ansel Adams

Books:

Ansel Adams: Miniature Art Book

Ansel Adams: 400 Photographs

The Camera (Ansel Adams Photography, Book 1)

The Negative (Ansel Adams Photography, Book 2)

The Print (Ansel Adams Photography, Book 3)
He has a ton of books, just do a quick Google search if you're interested, or you can ask me.

I learned some stuff I didn't know about him by reading his Wiki page, you guys should check it out Smile . There is so much that can be posted on him, but I tried to keep it short. His work at some of Americas National Parks is amazing. He has definitely ruined those places for other people trying to capture what he has captured. I'll end it with a quote, hope everyone enjoyed it!

"You don't take a photograph, you make it". - Ansel Adams

I read somewhere that he was the one that started the Medium Format craze among photographers..

He's one of the people that made Hasselblad and the other MF manufacturers so popular.

Wordskis.

Each black and white photo consists of 10 zones.. Haha. It's like he's relating photography to philosophy (up to a certain extent of course), at least in terms of how things are and stuff like that.

If I'm even making sense. Laughing
