| IATRJ wrote: | | Quote: | As the free-agent offers for Hedo Turkoglu reportedly continue to soar to as high as $50 million, the likelihood of reserve center Marcin Gortat returning to the Orlando Magic also has increased.
The Houston Rockets launched an all-out pursuit of Gortat on Tuesday, meeting with the Magic's coveted center minutes after midnight early Wednesday morning. Rockets general manager Daryl Moray announced his recruitment of Gortat with a mass e-mail on his Facebook.com page and he also urged Rockets fans to leave notes for the Polish-born player at the e-mail address rocketsfanslovegortat@gmail.com.
But because Gortat, a two-year NBA player, is a restricted free agent, the Magic have the right to match any contract offer he receives. With heavy interest from Houston, Dallas, Indiana and New York, Gortat is trying to secure a deal for the NBA's mid-level exception (worth approximately $5.5 million next season). A five-year deal could be worth approximately $35 million.
With Turkoglu closer to leaving by the day, the Magic now seem intent on keeping the 6-foot-11, 240-pound Gortat in Orlando. |
|
At the very least - I'd match mid-level money...and then trade him to one of those teams for an asset or two. IF you bring Gortat back - then he'll have to play some power forward as well.
Turk may be receiving a 56 million dollar offer from Toronto now - according to Yahoo. Which, again, would be good for us. _________________ Teams Sig Removed Because All My Teams Have Been Jinxed Since I Put It Up. |

Ok checking in early from Orlando, will be at NBA city today... from what im reading hedo may have screwed himself waiting, portland and toronto are about to throw the bank at ariza! if they do no more hedo, but we have to hope to jump in there
also its looking like gortat may be kept since we can match any offer, we may use the MLE on him and for some reason sheed is really considering boston... no idea why but oh well
and cleveland is out of a few of their prospects, so they are looking at somehow getting artest... no idea how bad that chemistry would be...shaq/lebron/ariza, sounds like a sword fight in a crowded urinal...
oh well ill check in later and update if i hear anything _________________ G2C Wear, Check it out!

from what I understand, we'd actually still have our MLE if we retained Gortat. You don't use it to keep your own players.
I'm tired of Boston to be honest. Players aren't even going there to play. They're going there to piggyback. At the end of the day - I don't know if Rasheed is the right player for Orlando anyways. When he plays, he definitely is. But all the side stuff that comes along with him - that's something that a team like Boston may absorb better than we can. Last thing we need is a 40 year old brat on the bench pouting because the coach told him to play some D. My only problem with Sheed at this point is that I rather he rotted away in Detroit and didn't make Boston or Cleveland better. _________________ Teams Sig Removed Because All My Teams Have Been Jinxed Since I Put It Up. |

| Quote: | take it for what its worth. Junkie wasn't sure to post it, so I'm doing the dirty work, lol. Don't turn this into a thread questioning sources and validation. just for discussion purposes.
- Denton was correct in his article; Magic are looking to split their MLE. I hated hearing this, but they need to fill out roster spots and this is all they have. Because they are spliting the MLE, it'll be hard to get the guy(s) we really want.
- Otis and Bass want each other but $$$ is not there. Bass wants MLE and, as just stated, Otis is spliting it amongst players. If by the grace of God, no one offers Bass MLE, we might be able to sign him for CHEAP. Teams are scared to spend so there's a lil' hope. Also a concern is Cuban's willingness to spend. He likes Bass, but Mavs also have a 2010 plan and he won't jeapordize it. We'll see how that plays out, but there is a lot of mutual interest.
- Gortat - Magic will match offers for him. Gortat was told to go out and get an offer and we'll match. He did, so we will.
- Turk - ain't coming back.
- Sheed - Likely ends up in Boston. Our unwillingness to spend the whole MLE on 1 player is affecting us with the vet bigs. We like him but can't afford him. Same with Dyess.
- Grant Hill - Not happening.
- Summer League - Magic really like Pargo and hope to sign him. He's gotta prove is worth first. Magic also keeping an eye on Powell.
- Other possible FAs - Carney & Bogans were the only names I could get. Bogans and Stan have beef so we'll see what happens there.
- Pietrus is coming off the bench. Vince will play 3, and as it currently stands, JJ will start (oh God).
again, this is what we're hearing so don't shoot the messenger(s), lol. Props to Junkie for letting me post the info. |
These guys are usually pretty decent with their information. And everything here sounds like Orlando Magic type moves. Cheap motherfkers. _________________ Teams Sig Removed Because All My Teams Have Been Jinxed Since I Put It Up. |

I think we should do a sign and trade with Gortat then spend the MLE on getting Brandon Bass or Mcdyess. Because I don't see us spending 35mil on a backup for D. _________________ I get wasted like them white boys

Its entirely possible that we can orchestrate that S&T with Houston for a guy like Landry or Dallas for Bass...we get our PF...and still have the entire MLE to spend.
I think this option is mainly why Orlando is so intent on matching offers for him now.
edit: Just read that Bass is hard to trade for because he's a Base Year player. _________________ Teams Sig Removed Because All My Teams Have Been Jinxed Since I Put It Up. |

there's like 2-3 posters who've been pretty reliable with their information. Not reliable in a sense of it always being accurate - but reliable in a sense of it later being reported by other beat writers. I know Denton is one of their "sources." And I know Otis doesn't talk to anybody, so any Orlando articles or information should be taken with a grain of salt.
But mainly - I posted that because it sounds...pretty Orlando Magic-ish. All that sh*t sounds like exactly what an Orlando Magic summer plan would consist of. _________________ Teams Sig Removed Because All My Teams Have Been Jinxed Since I Put It Up. |

Hedo wants a 5 year deal for at least 10 per...we're not willing to make that long of a financial commitment to him at this point in his career. _________________ Teams Sig Removed Because All My Teams Have Been Jinxed Since I Put It Up. |
